In the last post in this series, I discussed that making us happy is one of the reasons Jesus came into this world. Today, we will discuss in detail the ministerial assignments of Jesus Christ on earth and how they affect us. The Book of Isaiah says:
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
The ministerial assignment of Christ on earth.
According to the scripture above, the assignments are:
- To console those who mourn in Zion
- To give them beauty for ashes
- To provide the oil of joy for mourning
- The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
The reasons for these assignments are:
- So they might be called trees of righteousness
- So they might be called the planting of the Lord
- That He (Jesus) might be glorified.
Let's explore each of these points in detail:
To console those who mourn in Zion
Jesus came to console every unhappy person in the Zion. Zion here represents the body of Christ and where people gather together in the name of the Lord. Console here also means provide. Jesus came to supply all the needs of those who are suffering in the Church.
To give them beauty for ashes
Ashes represent sorrow, grief, lamentation, and suffering, among many other situations that bring bad emotions. Jesus doesn't want us to go through unnecessary suffering. He came to beautify every ugly situation we could go through.
To provide the oil of joy for mourning
“The oil of joy” represents the joy of the Holy Spirit. It can also be called the Spirit of Joy. Oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit and Jesus is the baptizer in the Holy Spirit. He came to give us the Holy Spirit, which makes us happy when we are physically suffering.
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
In ancient times, a grieving person usually wore sackcloth. A sackcloth is a garment of heavy heart. The garment of praise is the opposite of sackcloth and serves as a metaphor for an unspeakable gladness and thanksgiving that God's people feel when they are filled with the Joy of the Lord. This Joy of the Lord gives them the strength to serve the Lord on a daily basis, no matter the circumstance. You should put on your garment of praise on a daily basis.
Reasons for the Ministerial Assignment of Jesus
So they may be called trees of righteousness
“Trees of righteousness” represent believers in Christ Jesus who live and do right. They align their lives with the word of God (Bible). Like a tree, they bear good fruits to the glory and praise of God.
That they might be called the planting of the Lord
When God says, yes, no one can say no. When God plants something, no one can uproot it. “The planting of the Lord” are believers in Christ who are firmly planted on the solid rock, which is Christ Jesus. Because God plants them, their faith in Christ Jesus is unshakeable and they trust Him wholeheartedly.
That He (Jesus) might be glorified.
All the aforementioned reasons converge to this single point: Jesus came to this world to give us joy and comfort, and when we are filled with joy and comfort on every side. We will glorify our Lord Jesus, the King of Glory. Hallelujah.
