The God we serve is a God of Love and He wants us to walk in love by showing kindness to each other. The book of Corinthians says something important:
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
This scripture makes us know that it is possible for a believer to have the following gifts:
- The ability to speak in the tongues of men.
- The ability to speak in the tongues of angels.
- The ability to have the gift of prophecy.
- The ability to understand mysteries.
- The ability to understand all knowledge
- The ability to have faith that can move mountains.
- The ability to dispose off one’s possessions to feed the poor.
- The ability to become a martyr.
However, if a believer has all those gifts and qualities but lacks love, those gifts mean nothing. Paul likens such a believer to a clanging cymbal: loud but empty. In my journey of over 30 years in the Christin faith, I have seen many believers who claim to have been born again for many years, yet find it hard to express love to other believers or people generally. Love is not love until it has been expressed.
For example, when your neighbour comes to you and tells you he hasn’t eaten for 2 days, all you do is pray for him while you have a “farm” of food in your house. When you do that, you are not a practising Christian. As a matter of fact, you don’t love God. If you can’t love a man that is visible, how can you claim to love God who is invisible? Jesus said, when you show love to others, then people will know that you are His disciple. From today, begin to show love to people like you have never done and God will show you His kindness and love like never before.
If you haven’t given your life to Jesus, seize this opportunity to accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour. If you are willing, say this prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I know I’m a sinner and come to you today. I repent of my sins and confess them to you (mention them). Jesus, I accept you today as my personal Lord and Saviour. I promise to serve you all my days.”
If you prayed this prayer sincerely, search for a Bible-believing church of your choice and begin to fellowship there. Read your Bible and pray every day. You can reach me through apostlepaul@pkgm.org. May the Lord cause you to walk in love throughout your Christian journey in Jesus’ name.
