When you Don’t Feel Like Praying The counterintuitive response when spiritually weak

Every believer in Christ must master the art of prayer. You must pray whether it’s convenient or not. Before His crucifixion, Jesus took some of His disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to watch and pray with Him. He knew fully well that He would soon be arrested and crucified. This truth leads us to the question: why does God call us to pray especially in our weakest moments?

Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Matthew 26:40-41 (NKJV)

The Best Time to Pray is When You Don’t Feel Like Praying

Jesus was surprised to find His disciples sleeping when they were supposed to be praying. They couldn’t watch and pray with Him for even a single hour. He declared, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Through this scripture, Jesus teaches us that prayer is essential to overcome temptation. When He says, “the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak,” Jesus means there will be times when we have a strong desire to engage in spiritual exercises—prayer, fasting, Bible study, and the like—but the physical strength, energy, or ability to do so simply isn’t there. However, the best time to pray is precisely when you don’t feel like praying. This truth leads us to the question: why does God call us to pray especially in our weakest moments?

Why to Pray when don't feel like it

The devil does not want you to pray. He wants you to stay weak so you become an easy target. The forces of darkness never sleep; they constantly monitor our world, looking for gaps and opportunities to make our lives miserable. You can’t afford to be spiritually cold in this world filled with wickedness. This is not the time to be spiritually asleep. Every single one of us must be spiritually alert and stay on fire for God. It’s time to pray like Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. The Bible says in Luke 22:44 that He prayed so intensely, His sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground. Children of God, pray like never before! Increase your prayer fire so you can overcome every force of darkness that has vowed to hunt you down. The grace to pray fervently is increasing in you, and the gates of hell will not prevail against you in Jesus’ name!
