When Wealth Increases

In the world today, some people are super-rich and stupendously wealthy. They are rich enough to buy anything that money can buy. While God is not against being rich or being very wealthy, He doesn't want us to attach our hearts to our money or wealth. Let's see what the book of Psalms says.

Do not trust in oppression nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches Increase, Do not set your heart on them.

Ps. 62:10 (NKJV)

This scripture sounds a note of warning to all of us not to put our confidence in oppressing others through robbery or extortion. It also tells us that wealth can increase legitimately without doing wrong. It also emphasizes that when we get wealthier, we should not set our hearts on wealth and put our confidence or trust in it. No matter how super-rich we are, we will always need God every second, minute, day, week, and month. The Bible says in Him we live, move, and have our being (Acts 17:28). It is not uncommon for us to feel we don’t need God when we become rich. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth: God is all that we need.

When you put your trust in your riches, the love of God will not be in you and you will love your money and riches above Him. There is nothing bad in having money, but the Bible reminds us that the Love of money is the root of all evil. Money is not evil; the love for it is evil. Confidence and trust in money and other material possessions is a heavy and sinful weight that can hinder you from gaining access to the Kingdom of Heaven. In the book of Revelation chapter 3, the lukewarm Church had so much confidence in her riches. See what the Bible says:

Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

Rev. 3:17-19 (NKJV)

In the above scripture, God rebukes and tells the lukewarm church to repent and return to Him for help. The lukewarm church, because of her wealth, thought that she didn't need anything but was oblivious to the fact that she was suffering from spiritual poverty, spiritual blindness, and spiritual nakedness.

Friend, if you put your trust in your money, riches, or wealth, repent now and put your trust in the living God. It is well with you as you do so in Jesus’ name.
