In the last post of this series, I shared that God hates divorce and that the unity and harmony of a married couple bring Him joy. When a husband and wife live in harmony, they can raise their children in the ways of the Lord. From the very beginning, God designed marriage to last forever.
Stay Close to your Spouse
God desires for married couples to remain close. It is not His will for a husband to live in Germany while his wife resides in Australia indefinitely. Marriage was never meant to function that way. As husband and wife, you should live together—in the same country, the same state, the same street, the same house, and even the same room. If relocation becomes necessary, both partners must agree on the decision.
Your togetherness as husband and wife is vitally important. It signifies a deep connection and unity.
Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
This passage highlights why it is not good to be alone and the many benefits of togetherness in marriage—support, strength, comfort, warmth, and security. It also reminds us that a threefold cord, representing the husband, wife, and God, is not easily broken. A marriage where God is the foundation remains unshakable.
On the other hand, a lack of togetherness in marriage can open the door to infidelity, which can quickly destroy any relationship. To safeguard their union, husbands and wives must remain faithful and committed to each other. To be continued…
