The Sword is a bladed weapon that is used for cutting or thrusting. Swords were historically used by warriors in the battlefields before guns were invented. A sword has a sharp edge on both of it’s sides and when wielded, has the ability deliver a lethal blow to it’s victim.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
This scripture makes us know that the word of God is one of the weapons of spiritual warfare. The sword of the spirit in this passage is a metaphor for the word of God (The Bible). The sword of the spirit has the ability to diminish every negative spiritual attack into shreds. The word of God as a spiritual sword is an offensive weapon and can also be a defensive weapon.
In today’s world, wickedness has reached its crescendo and we need to engage in spiritual warfare by using the word of God to overcome every agent of darkness on the hunt for us. After His forty day fast, Jesus overcame Satan’s temptation by constantly using the scriptures every time he was tempted. You can apply the word of God against every stubborn situation that wants to snuff life out of you. The word of God is the word of life. It can bring restoration, healing, deliverance, revival, jubilation, salvation, restoration and among many other limitation elimination possibilities. When you marinate yourself in the word of God, you will walk constantly in holiness and you will also be spiritually sound.
Just as we need food to survive as a person, we need the word of God as spiritual food to survive the Christian walk. As a believer in Christ, you need to know that you are a spiritual soldier who is in the active battle field. The more you use the sword of the spirit to confront the powers of darkness, the more powerful you become and the more victories you get.
As an onward Christian soldier in the midst of a fierce and a never ending battle, don’t compromise. Keep using the sword of the spirit (the word of God) to terrify Satan and his agents of darkness and watch victory become yours through Jesus Christ!
