In many countries today, people don’t see any reason why they should marry. Many believe that marriage is a necessary evil but God would not have originated it in the book of Genesis. God designed marriage to be a precious thing.
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
And Adam said: This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.
In the above scripture, God decided it is bad for Adam to be alone and he made him a helper (woman). So God put Adam in a deep sleep and took one of his ribs to form a woman, Eve. When Adam first saw her, he said “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh” highlighting her importance to his life.
Going to Genesis was deliberate and it should help you understand that marriage is the plan and purpose of God for every man and woman. Marriage is good and not bad. Like the marriage of Adam & Eve, God wants more happy and successful marriages to take place all over the world. Here are concrete reasons why marriage is good.
Reasons Why Marriage Is Good
- Marriage brings freedom from loneliness. (Gen 2: 18)
- Marriage brings favour of the Lord. (Prov. 18:22)
- Marriage brings all round increase. (Ps 115:14)
- Marriage allows you and your spouse to engage in prayer of agreement that brings outstanding results. (Matt 18:19)
- Marriage allows you and your spouse to counsel and advice each other on critical things that will affect your life. (Prov. 24:6)
- Marriage is an indication that a helper has come into your life. (Gen 2:18)
- Marriage makes you better. (Ecl 4:9)
Husbands and wives need to love each other to make their marriage work. (Eph 5:25, 1 Cor 13:4-8)
