A collapsed house in a state of rubbles

Don’t Build on Sinking Sand

Those who follow Christ must do so actively and wholeheartedly, not passively following the train of other believers. They must also live in constant obedience and be not just hearers but also doers of the word.

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)

In this scripture, Jesus highlights the importance of practical Christianity and how critical active obedience is to a successful and victorious Christian journey. Using a parable, Jesus likened hearing God’s word and putting it into practice to being a wise man who built his house on a solid rock, which stood strong when massive floods and strong winds came. Then He likened hearing His word but not putting it into practice (or refusing to obey it) to being a foolish man who built a house on sinking sand, and that house was destroyed when similar floods and winds came. What this parable teaches is that when we build our lives on the rock of Christ by following His teachings and living according to the principles of Scripture, we will withstand the storms of life and come out victorious whenever they rise against us. Whether we like it or not, every single one of us is building our house - our life. Are you building yours on solid rock (Jesus Christ) or are you building it on sinking sand that will not hold up when storms of life come?

Be wise! Every other thing may fail, but the word of God will never fail. Those who “live” the word of God - that is, put it into practice - are wise; Their lives will be rooted on the rock that never fails, and no power of darkness can overcome them. Whether you like it or not, at some point in your life, challenging storms of life will come against you to test your faith. And it is the quality of the substance (rock or sand) that you stand on that will determine your victory. Build your life on solid rock today by putting both the spoken (rhema) and written (logos) words of God into practice. I decree, receive an unusual grace to build on solid rock by dogged obedience and constant practice of the word of God in Jesus’ name. You are blessed! Amen.
