Don’t Be Harsh On Foreigners Showing Kindness Across Borders

Apostle Paul Kolawole

The God we serve is the God of all races, languages, and colors. He calls us to love and care for immigrants (foreigners) among us.

“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”

Lev. 19:33-34 (NIV)

In this passage, God was instructing the people of Israel not to oppress or look down on foreigners. Instead, He commanded them to treat outsiders just as they would treat one of their own. This Word is not just ancient history and it is alive, active, and still applies today. When we encounter foreigners in our midst, we must not mistreat them or be harsh toward them.

We Are All One Under Christ

God has not united us by skin color, language, or nationality but by the truth that every one of us is made in His image. Whether black or white, African or European, Asian or American, we all share the same red blood. I’ve never seen a person with blue or purple blood. This is a reminder that we are all the same and we are all descendants of one man: Abraham, the father of faith. There is no other spiritual ancestor for believers. So how can we justify unkindness toward those from other lands?

Going by the same scipture, it is not Biblical for leaders, anywhere in the world, to impose harsh, unbearable policies on foreigners in their nations. Such policies only bring suffering and heartbreak.

But when we choose love, dignity, and care for those who are far from home, we reflect the heart of God. And when we do, He is pleased with us and His blessings will follow us. This week, if you meet a foreigner, irrespective of whether you know them or not, show them love and treat them with kindness. Extend to them the same grace you would want if you were in their place. And as you do, God’s blessings will follow you, by His grace and in Jesus’ name.
