The Book of Daniel chapter 6 details how Daniel was delivered from the jaws of a pride of lions. Daniel was one of three governors serving under King Darius of the Kingdom of Babylon, who appointed 120 satraps (princes) over his kingdom. These satraps gave the governors accounts relating to social business and economic matters. Daniel was preferred above the rest of the governors and satraps because he had an excellent spirit. As a result, the King sought to put Daniel in charge of the whole realm and over his contemporaries. The governors and satraps were unhappy with this development and plotted amongst themselves to take Daniel down. They studied Daniel but couldn’t find anything against him. Then, they saw his religious devotion and consistent prayer to God daily, which created an evil decree preventing anyone from praying to God for thirty days, knowing that Daniel was a devout God lover. They deceived the King into approving the decree and making it law.
Daniel was unphased by the decree and continued his daily routine of opening his windows and kneeling to pray three times every day. Because of this, Daniel broke the law and was cast into the lions' den. The king wanted to save Daniel, but the decree was already law and had to be enforced. However, Daniel was not devoured by the lions because God came to his rescue and sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions. After a day, Daniel was miraculously found alive and was brought out of the Lions' den. He was promoted, but his enemies and their families were cast into the lion's den and were devoured. There are many things to learn from this story.
Things to Learn From Daniel’s Story
- Daniel's enemies hated him without reason. Some people will hate you with passion whether you like it or not.
- Daniel was distinguished above the governors and satraps because he had an excellent spirit. You should seek excellence and be determined to be your best.
- Daniel's enemies did not want him promoted to the next level. Your enemies want you to remain in the same spot. They don’t want you to move ahead or beyond your current state.
- Daniel's enemies plotted against him but failed. In like manner, your enemies will find ways to plot evil against you, but if you remain steadfast in your faith like Daniel was, they will fail.
- Daniel's enemies knew exactly what to do to neutralize him. Be alert! Your enemies know what they can do to bring you down.
- Daniel's enemies made an irreversible decree against him to kill him. Your enemies are also making an evil decree in the realm of the Spirit against you, but the Lord will not approve it.
- Even after learning that an evil decree had been signed into law, Daniel refused to make it influence his faith. Don't allow what your enemies say to influence you out of serving God the way you do.
